WebCompartment syndrome occurs when the pressure within a closed osteo-fascial muscle compartment rises above a critical level. This critical level is the intramuscular tissue pressure which collapses the capillary bed and prevents low-pressure blood flow through the capillaries and into the venous drainage. Normal tissue pressure is 0-10 mm Hg. WebCompartment pressures can be measured in the 3 compartments of the forearm (volar, dorsal, and mobile wad). The Stryker ® system, a commercially available instrument, is used here. Know what equipment is available at your particular institution.
