In settings, the location icon shows gray next to the find my iPhone app which means its been used in last 24 hrs from what I understand. Webon my iphone 7, i have an option to update to 14.8 or upgrade to 15.0. It seems Apple will provide security updates for people who won't update to 15.0. I just checked and I was able to just install 14.8. It's right there, with the other option to upgrade to ios 15 all the way down the update page.
